Presidents' Choice Digital Cooking Thermometer

You‘ll never have to open the oven door again to monitor cooking progress. Featuring presets for specific foods and a programmable alert, our PC Digital Cooking Thermometer has a stainless steel probe that goes into the food and a remote base unit that stays outside the oven or barbecue. The counter unit beeps and displays the internal temperature in F ° or C ° on a large LCD screen when food reaches the desired doneness.

This thermometer appears to be well designed, is easy to use&clean, and is very affordable. However, I found that you get what you pay for: it doesn't accurately measure temperature! It read 16C in an ice bath (should be ~0C), and 90C in boiling water (should be ~100C). Luke warm water came out as 55C! I tried a fresh battery - same result. I was planning to use mine for making yogurt and cheese, so this temperature range is crutial. Maybe it is more accurate at higher temperatures, but I doubt it.

I have so many good PC products that I didn't hesitate to pick this up but it has been a major disappointment. There have been a few times when I've turned it on and the food item being cooked registers as being done even though I just put it in the oven. I also found that when I left the probe in the meat and placed the box on the counter it went nuts and showed the temperature as being 220'. It definitely did not like being kept in the meat while it was cooking. This product will probably end up going in the garbage.

I was excited about this product when i saw it come out. I had meant to purchase one last year, but didn't end up getting one. I snapped one up this year (at the new lower price) as soon as i saw them. HOLY disappointed! Sure it looks nice, and i like that the probe is removeable for cleanup, but it doesn't keep temperature, or read accurately! I am a pastry chef, and after burning a batch of caramels, i checked the temperature with 2 thermometres on the next batch. THe PC thermometer actually reached a certain point (i believe, 180 F) and then started counting backwards, as the mixture boiled! VERY dissappointed. Didn't even bother to return the product for a new one.

I really wanted one of these and was thrilled to get one as a gift which I used at Thanksgiving. The alarm is annoying and even more so when the turkey was obviously not cooked yet the thermometer indicated it was. I took the unit back and it was replaced but even with the 2nd unit I'm not sure the temperature probe is accurate. Pork loin was pretty pink and cool when the thermometer indicated 170.

I was excited to try this out at Thanksgiving but found that mine didn't work.
I set it to the poultry temperature and put it in the bird when it was about half done. I tried it in several different places but every time I put the turkey back in the oven it beeped saying it had reached the right temp.
When I pulled it out of the oven the temp dropped drastically and it was not done. I don't know if I got a bum one but I threw away the packaging already so I guess I have to throw this one out. If it worked it would be good value but I'm very glad I still had an old standby around.

This is one of the best things I have ever bought! No more guess work. Now everything comes out perfectly. The only that I would like is if it were to tell me the approximate cooking time left. Regardless, this is the best money you will ever spend.

I bought a similar item for 39.95 three years ago
from an online kitchen store. I loved it..until
the cat accidently knocked into a sinkful of water. Fortunately SuperStore had just come out with theirs at 14.95. Same item only less than half the price. I raved about them to everyone and gave 5 of them as Christmas gifts. I do a lot of cooking, baking and barbequing and would not be without one. My meat and poultry come out perfect every time. No more worrying about whether I have undercooked or overcooked food. Now is is even
5.00 cheaper! Do yourself a favour and buy one
you will never regret it!
